Does anyone know about the software they use in magazines to remove backgrounds from pictures? I nee

I always see in magazines how the detail of hair, for example, is always so perfect after you remove the background from that picture. Usually its a white background. I have tried photoshop techniques and other programs, but theyre not as accurate as what i see in this magazines, newspaper adds and stuff. I work in photography and I need a fast accurate way of doing this. HELP! answers will be very much appreciated

We use Adobe Indesign for the most part. Corel photo-paint does an awesome job as well as Photoshop.

In most brand name magazines (can't say here), InDesign is one of the most complete package available.

It combines features from Pagemaker, Photoshop, Illustrator etc...

Having said this, don't think that because it incorporates all the features of other packages, it is second class. It is complete and extremely easy to use. The reason it incorporates features from other well-known package is becausem, those users will not feel out of place in using it.

Iam an Editor-in-Chief and would not recommend something our complany doesn't use. Yes, it is fast, complete and basically, it's the only software you will evern need for anything. Report It

with photoshop type program you may try selecting color range with wand, copy, then paste in new layer with transparent background, could do more then one selection, and combine, with that, you can adjust range with feathering or border options,

Unbeknown to most digital photographers, most of the tools in Photoshop are used by the post-production and pre-press people at magazines and newspaper publishers (and others) to do all that photo manipulation.

That is the tool they use.

There's Extensis Mask Pro, some of which is now in CS3 called the 'Extract' tool found under the Filter menu.

i think the only way to go is photoshop, i dont think it depends on the software, it depends on your ability mostly,

most people use the lasso or the magic wand. or color selection. but for me the best way to go is to duplicate the picture to a new layer, and hide the background, and add a highly satured color to the background while you just erase the background out with the eraser. its the safest way to go because you have more control, especially on the hair. its the most accurate method but it may be slow until you get enough practice. i use a wacom tablet, that makes it a lot faster.

also you may not need to cut the bakcground all the time sometimes manipulating the hues, levels, curves, etc can help. without completly cutting the background.

I use Corel Knockout (http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?c... It works fairly well (it's not as easy as they say--so not exactly one or two steps sort of program).

It's a plug in for Photoshop.
